How and when will participants be selected?

The deadline for the application is May 1st, 2011. The organizing team of the New Media Summer School will select participants by May 7th at the latest.

We are looking for outspoken and active young people between 18 and 30 from all over Europe who have a passion and interest in issues surrounding policy, regulation and governance of the internet. Previous knowledge of and experience in these subjects is highly desirable.

It is crucial that you are an outspoken person. We will need you to actively participate not only in the New Media Summer School, but also in EuroDIG, where you’ll represent European youth towards other stakeholders. Obviously, we’d love to see you lobby those government people into adopting your policy ideas!

What we also expect is a commitment to stay actively involved in youth efforts to influence Internet and New Media policy making processes within your country and on a European level. Of course, we’ll also ask you to spread whatever knowledge you gain in your network.

The maximum number of participants is 32. Should we receive more applications than we can accept, we will of course assure a balance in terms of origin, gender and age in our participants, maximizing the diversity of perspectives and opinions.
Deadline for applications is Tuesday, May 1st 2012, 15h00 CET.

Participants will be selected
and informed by the NMSS 2012 team by Monday, May 7th 2012.

There are some questions buzzing around in your head? This section will provide you with some answers. In case of any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the organising team:!
# What is Internet Governance about?
The expression “governance” might be misleading. The internet can not be governed, you may say. The term describes the discussion of different stakeholder groups such as governments, academia, NGOs, industry, civil society and youth, about policies and processes with regard to the management of the internet as a resource to facilitate free communication and information.
# I want to participate but I can only arrive one day later or need to leave one day earlier – what to do?
You should ensure that you will be with us from Sunday, June 10th afternoon until Sunday, June 17th, evening. Arriving one day later or the need to leave one day earlier means cutting essentially on the outcome and your contribution. In case you know your time constraints already, please state this fact in your application.
# I found an incredible cheap flight or other travel offer to Stockholm for the event – can I book it already?
Unfortunately not. Only upon our approval of your application you can book your flight/travel. In case you book before you receive any official approval of your application, you take the risk of covering the whole costs yourself.
